Frequently Asked Questions from current students
Students will choose a stream in their second year using the Program Change Request online form (myacademicrecord.students.yorku.ca/program-change). This cannot be done in first year. Choose one of Digital Media Arts, Digital Media Development or Digital Media Game Arts.
Prerequisites may include both specific courses and, at the 2000-, 3000- and 4000- levels, also the requirement of a cumulative GPA of 4.5 or higher computed over all EECS major courses. “General Prerequisites” is a term used to describe prerequisites that apply to (almost) every course at a particular level.
As a student in the School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design, you must take 6.0 credits in the area of humanities, 6.0 in the area of natural science, and 6.0 in area of social science. Each requirement can be satisfied by a single 6.0 credit course, or two separate 3.0 credit courses.
The FA/XXXX 1900 courses you take as part of the Digital Media program can count toward the humanities area 6.0 requirement. That leaves only 6.0 credits in natural science area and 6.0 in the social science remaining as your gen eds. Courses you take for the 6.0 STS/COMN Digital Media program requirement can also count toward your general education requirements in the social science area (for COMN courses) or the natural science area(for STS courses) . As an Honours BA student in the Lassonde School of Engineering, you must take a total of 21 credits, including 6 credits from three of the following four areas: humanities, modes of reasoning, natural science, social science at the 1000 or 2000 level (1000 level for natural science).
The FA/XXXX 1900 courses you take as part of the Digital Media program automatically count toward the humanities area 6.0 requirement. Candidates for a Specialized Honours degree in the School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) must pass at least 120 credits, chosen in conformity with the Major program as well as AMPD curriculum requirements and in consultation with an academic advisor. Students choose a stream in their second year from the following options: Digital Media Development, Digital Media Arts and Digital Media Game Arts.
